On Friday, October 4, 2013, we will welcome two inspiring voices to East Lansing, Michigan:

Frank Baker, the Keynote Speaker, is a world renowned educational consultant, educator, and prolific author; Media Literacy in the K-12 Classroom (2013) is his most recent book.  Frank blogs at http://ncte-ama.blogspot.com and is a contributor to the blogs: USA Today’s Teacher’s Lounge and Middleweb.com.  He has presented at International Reading Association, National Conference of Teachers of English, and The National Middle School Association. Frank served on the NCTE’s "Commission on Media" from 2005-2008. Currently, he is a member of "Media and Digital Literacies Collaborative."

Jennifer Ochoa, an experienced teacher has taught in Lansing, Michigan and the Bronx, New York will be the Luncheon Speaker. She currently teaches eighth grade in Washington Heights, New York and college courses at Lehman College in the Bronx.  When she is not teaching, she is sharing her passion for teaching, learning, and sharing through a variety of media sources.  You can find the video of her best practice strategy of Text Graffiti : Previewing Challenging Topics on www.teachingchannel.org.  Jennifer is a National Writing Project Fellow from MSU’s Red Cedar Writing Project and has recently served as NCTE’s Secondary Representative at Large on NCTE’s Executive Committee.

**Each participant will receive a copy of Linda Rief’s stellar text 100 Quickwrites from Scholastic, along with other rich mentor texts.

Pre-Conference Time:
Thursday, October 3, 2013, 4:30 - 7:00 pm. 

Conference Times: 
Registration opens Friday October 4, 2013 at 7:00 AM. The opening program begins shortly after 8:00 AM. The last conference session ends at 3:30 PM.
